The problem at hand? To get a cinderblock as high as possible off the ground.....but only using a pile of newspaper and Elmer's glue. (This problem solver thing..maybe I was wrong) But I dove in and gave it a go anyway.
1) My first idea was to make my version of a greek column
2) I started by constructing a raft for the bottom that would be secure and give height
3) Then I figured that it wouldn't be enough height, so I began making these hot pocket shaped objects by combining regular newspaper strips with thicker strips out of the coupons and advertisement ads. It seemed to help.
4. Next I began constructing the top of the column the very same way in order to decipher how much paper I would have left to build the center of the column.
5. Turns out I had just enough... so I began taking very thin sheets of newspaper about 3 to 4 sheets at a time and rolled them tightly long ways. I figured the tighter and thinner in the beginning the sturdier and thicker it will be in the end.
6. An abundance of glue was used in the making of this project. (Side Note)
7. I glued each piece into place and let it dry for about 10 minutes and did my first attempt in seeing if my creation would support the cinderblock.
8. FAIL! My tower was sturdy but it had one major flaw. It tipped over.
9. I sat for a few minutes almost out of newspaper wondering how I would stop the tipping of my tower and BAM!!! Like lighting it hit me.
10. I used the hot pocket idea again and surrounded the center of my column hopefully able to help uphold it.
11. I waited impatiently for the glue to dry and my new idea to thrive and come to life.
12. And then it was ready for time trial #2.
13. Success!!!!!!!!!! My tower upheld the cinderblock as I blew out a sigh of relief.
